ABOUT THE NCCA |

In 2008, the National Collegiate Conference Association (NCCA) will celebrate 40 years of experience-based educational programs that further understanding of the United Nations and contemporary international problems. Our mission has remained consistent since our inception – offering experiential learning opportunities that provide participants the insights needed to become better global citizens and the next generation of international leaders.

Much has changed at NMUN. What was once a conference of mostly East Coast U.S. schools has grown to be an international forum for students to debate pressing global issues. For the past several years, approximately half of the participants have been from outside the United States – allowing delegates to find common ground with peers from a wide range of backgrounds.

Increased diversity has occurred alongside overall expansion of the programs. More than 4,000 university students and 275+ faculty from five continents attended our 2007 sessions. Expanding participation opportunities while maintaining a reasonable size to the simulations has led us to hold our first program outside New York. In November 2007, NMUN-DC will offer several hundred delegates a quality Model UN also featuring access to renowned speakers and embassy briefings possible in the U.S. capital. Organized in partnership with Osgood Center for International Relations and Johns Hopkins University’s School for Advanced International Studies, NMUN-DC is also an example of how partnerships can further allow NCCA to fulfill its educational mission.

Looking ahead to the next 40 years we will continue to promote an ever more diverse group of participants and volunteer staff. Through new fundraising efforts we hope to expand our scholarships to increase diverse participation.

NCCA is a recognized Non-Governmental Organization associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information.
